After buying my daughter a travel cot to use as a playpen, I thought it would be nice to have some Winnie the Pooh sheets to cover the bottom of it as they'd match the design of the cot. Having priced up buying fabric, I found a cheap duvet cover that would do the job and gave us enough fabric to make 2 sheets. I asked my mother-in-law if she could bring her machine the next time she visited to make the sheets. This was the trigger for me wanting to learn to sew.
My first project was working with my mother-in-law to make the sheets and then I made a pillowcase to get more practice in on the machine. It went really well apart from me jamming the machine and having to get my father-in-law to fix it - oops!
She very kindly left me her machine to practice on as she was going to invest in a new one, so the next job was to plan project 2.
